Steps for New Horse Members
2008-9
As a new member of the Horse
Project, there are some steps you must take prior to you and your horse
taking active part in a work session. These steps provide additional detail beyond the
Expectations listed here, including
specific dates. While there are other
opportunities to take both the written and riding proficiency tests, the
dates below are the best opportunity.
Note
that while these steps focus on horse project members who intend to
ride, there are many opportunities for members who will not be riding
(for whatever reason), such as
Hippology or Horse Judging.
Our Project has members competing at County and State events in various
non-riding events, such as Horse Judging, so theses opportunities can
include competition, if so desired, and this is good preparation for
kids wanting to join FFA in High School.

Prior to taking the Written Proficiency
Certification
All members must take a
written proficiency test, the score of which is noted on the Proficiency
Cert & your Passport.

r

After taking the written proficiency,
All members must take a Riding
Proficiency with the appropriate discipline prior to joining a work
session. This score becomes part of your Passport and
Orange Proficiency
Form, which is required to participate in County sanctioned Events.
i) These can be done at the first work session for that discipline, but
please let the discipline leader know prior to arriving.
r
Completed Proficiency Cert &
r Horse ID must be brought to the Riding
Proficiency.
r
The discipline leader(s) will sign the Proficiency Cert once they
have evaluated the member
r
The County half of the Proficiency Cert and the
r Horse ID Cert(s) must be turned in to
the County prior to attending the first County Event or prior to Dec. 16
at 5pm.
While the Proficiency Testing
is required by the County, these steps also ensure that each
project member is fully evaluated by the Horse Leaders and is
placed in the proper riding class.
