Club Leadership & Committee Responsibilities

At the Community Club level the youth elect the President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer.  Those elected will serve a term of one 4-H year.   In May of each year, we will have elections for the following 4-H year.

Each officer is to attend all Community Club meetings (September through May), officer training sessions and meetings, and will represent the Community Club Youth members at all Leaders Meetings.  This is roughly a “20 meeting” commitment.  All of the officers will use parliamentary procedures.

  • The President will be expected to write the agenda for each Community Club meeting, contact speakers and committee chairs, and conduct the Community Club meeting each month.

  • The Vice-President will also learn to write agenda’s and fill in for the President in his or her absence.  The Vice-President will also lead the “Project Talk” section of the Community Club meeting, and is in to ensure that all youth participate.

  • The Secretary is expected to maintain all records of proceedings, and will maintain the roster of youth attendance at Community Club functions.  The Secretary is 2nd in line to replace the president in his or her absence.

  • The Treasurer will write checks, make deposits, and learn the accounting functions of a non-profit organizations.  The Treasurer will maintain written records of all financial transactions and is 3rd in line to replace the president in his or her absence.

In addition to the elected Community Club officer positions there are a number of appointed positions.  To apply for these positions, interested youth need to send a written statement to the Community Club leader outlining what position (or positions) they are interested in, and why they feel they would do well in that position.  These applications will be reviewed by the Community Club Leader, the Advisor to the Treasurer, and the Advisor to the Secretary.  It is an opportunity for youth who have interests and talents other than in the standard officer positions.  Training and mentoring is provided by the Adult 4-H leaders.  Meetings are scheduled as needed to fulfill the duties of the committees.

Project Leadership Opportunities

In addition to the Community Club positions, each project (depending on size and project needs) may elect officers, and select youth to be in charge of various needs such as fundraising and community service. There are many opportunities within our 4-H program, and we would like to welcome you and your family to our Club!  Please contact a 4-H leader today to join!
